Roadrunner Rally: Final Ask!

Help us reach our goal of 100% participation by considering a gift to the Lee PTA during these final days of the Roadrunner Rally.  We are so grateful to those who have already contributed, and we hope to reach our goal of $25,000 by the end of this month.  Let’s show our Lee pride by exceeding last year’s participation levels.  Our Roadrunner community continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence, and the student experience is enriched every day because of your contributions. Let’s do this!

Roadrunner Rundown – No School Next Friday

Roadrunner Families,
This week, I was fortunate enough to accompany our 6th Grade Leaders to the Outdoor School at Camp Champions. This annual overnight trip kicks off a year of leadership and group goal-setting for our entire 6th grade class. To say that this is a transformative event for many of our Roadrunners is an understatement. While some of them have already spent the night away from home, few of them have participated in the series of outdoor activities that await them on this outing. Rock climbing, kayaking, high ropes course, and a giant swing known affectionately as the “Screaming Eagle” are all part of the team building experience that makes this trip so special. Several of them declared that it was the greatest experience of their lives, and none of it would be possible without the caring guidance of their teachers, Julie Brown and Alex Hubbard, who lead this trip every year.

Congratulations to our 3rd graders and their teachers on a fantastic Hawaii program! The performances were great and Ms. Stephen’s ukulele skills have gotten even better than last year, when she first learned to play the instrument for this program. Each of these grade level programs takes such a level of dedication from everyone involved, so congratulations to all of them.

As a reminder, our students will not have school next Friday, October 5th or on Monday, October 8th. Friday is a professional development day for our teachers and then on Monday, we will be hosting one our fall conference days. Please contact us in the office if you have any questions or concerns.

Lastly, on behalf of the teachers and staff, I want to thank the team of volunteers who helped make the PTA makeover of our teacher’s lounge a reality. Last Sunday a group of parents descended on the school to put together furniture and install new cabinetry and counter tops. Then on Wednesday, a new fridge was installed to fulfill the longtime wish of a working ice maker. A huge roadrunner round of applause for everyone who helped make it all happen. We appreciate it.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Library Lines

Aloha,

We had fun learning about King Kamehameha, Hula dancing, the Rat and Mongoose problem, and Tsunamis in support of our Hawaii program this week.

Your child will be bringing home an application for an Austin Public Library (APL) card.  In collaboration with APL, AISD is trying to get a city public library card in the hands of every AISD student.  This is different than the Star card or Youth Library Card.  If you want your child to have a library card, all you have to do is fill out the application and send it back to school.  We will collect applications until Oct. 12.  Then we will send all applications to APL, and they will send us your child’s library card.  We will distribute them through the homeroom teacher.  Please call Mrs. Day with any questions.

Our other bookshelves under the windows on the southside of the library were delivered this week, and we are working on shifting all the books around.  We had to order these bookshelves because the Classroom literacy library was moved down to the library this summer and we needed more shelf space.  These bookshelves were paid for by the PTA funds allotted to the library in the PTA budget.  Thank you for supporting the PTA.

Our Enchanted Forest Book Fair is just 2 weeks away, Oct. 15-19.  I  really need help on Monday evening, Tuesday and Wednesday morning, and Thursday evening. If you could help please signup at http://www.scholastic.com/bf/leeroadrunners.  Book Fair is a fun time for all the students.  I hope you can join us.  You can also order books online.  They will be delivered here free of charge and I will get them to your child.  If you order before Oct. 13 they will be delivered during the book fair.  After the 13th, they will be delivered here about 2 weeks after book fair.

Mahalo (Hawaiian for Thank You)  for all your support for the library.

Have a great weekend.
