News and Announcements

Roadrunner Rally – Week 4!

We are in our final week of the Roadrunner Rally – have you made your donation?  This once a year fundraising drive aims to fund the majority of the supplemental programming and support staff at Lee.  We would not be able to have a full-time Assistant Principal, and full-time math and reading specialists without this backing from the Lee PTA.  This is a community that continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence both through sweat equity and financial support.  We are proud to offer unique enrichment programming, like Geography Day, the Celebrations program, outdoor learning initiatives, and many other famous Lee traditions.  The Roadrunner Rally will be a true success if we can attain a majority of family participation.  If you have not already, please consider giving today.
There are two ways to make this tax deductible donation:
  * Venmo – send funds to @LeeElementary-PTA and put Roadrunner Rally and your family name in the memo
  *  write a check to Lee Elementary PTA with Roadrunner Rally in the memo and place in the black PTA lockbox on the round table

Roadrunner Rundown – Hispanic Heritage Month

Roadrunner Families,
Hispanic Heritage Month is underway, and we have a wide variety of learning opportunities in store for our Correcaminos. Our 6th grade leaders have started each day with information about Hispanic Heritage Month during our morning announcements; our student council members are working on projects on Hispanic leaders; and all students will participate in lessons at their respective grade levels. I want to take this opportunity to thank our Childcare Director, Gloria Perez and her team of student volunteers for their festive decoration of our foyer.

Please mark your calendars for some important events in the month of October and beyond. As part of our work as a district of innovation, our teachers will be participating in professional development days that are not part of the general AISD calendar. Our students will not have school on Friday, October 5th or Monday, October 8th. That Friday, our teachers will be participating in professional development; and then on Monday, it is one of our fall conference days. This means that your Roadrunner might have a day off while a child at another campus has school that day. Our other district of innovation professional development days will occur in early January, so that students will return to school after winter break starting on Monday, January 7th.

We will be holding our Student Flu Clinic on the morning of Tuesday, October 23rd. Forms have already gone home to sign your students up for this service, but you can also sign up online by clicking here. We are anticipating a challenging year for our students with the influenza, so we want to get as many of them vaccinated as possible to avoid missing school due to illness.

Fulmore Middle School invites the parents of all 5th and 6th grade elementary students to attend an upcoming Parent Information Night. They are offering two sessions:
Tuesday, October 9th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Fulmore Cafeteria
Tuesday, November 13th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Fulmore Cafeteria
This is an opportunity to meet members of the Fulmore community and learn about the Magnet and Dual Language programs and application processes.

Next week we will have our first Principal’s Coffee of the year on Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the library. Come by to meet our new assistant principal and share your feedback with both of us on how the school year is going for your Roadrunner. That afternoon is our first Campus Advisory Council meeting of the year at 3:00 in the library. Then on Thursday, we will have our first grade level program as our 3rd graders present their Hawaii Program. The evening program will be at 7:00 pm and is open to all families to attend. Also on Thursday, the members of our Sixth Grade Leadership Institute will depart on their two day team-building retreat at the the outdoor school at Camp Champions. They are already off to a great start with all of their work with Safety Patrol and Student Council. I am excited to see all that this group will accomplish over the course of this year.

Speaking of Student Council, I want to congratulate the following students who were elected to this year’s Student Council to represent their fellow Roadrunners:

Library Lines

Kindergaten and 2nd grade were entertained by Mother Goose last week.  She introduced us to Mary and her little lamb and Goosey and Itsy Bitsy.  We were all very entertained.  We have literary entertainers and authors visits with different grade levels throughout the year.  Your support at book fair helps make this possible.  Thank you.

Speaking of book fair… Our Enchanted Forest Book Fair is just a few weeks away.  (October 15-19)  More information and volunteer opportunities can be found at http://www.scholastic.com/bf-Lee roadrunners.  This year you can shop online.  If you shop before the fair starts, your child’s items will ship during the fair and be delivered to the school.  Of course you can shop online during and after the fair, too.  Deliveries will be after the fair, to the school.

Thank you for the support of the library and reading.

Enjoy a damp weekend with a good book!
