August 6, 2018
We are two weeks away from the first day of school, and I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer vacation. I want to start by introducing our new assistant principal, Caitlin Sileo. Caitlin is an energetic leader who grew up in Broward County, Florida and graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. From there, she moved to San Antonio to begin her career in education where she served as a Special Education teacher, as well as a 4th and 5th grade teacher in San Antonio ISD. In 2015 she moved to Austin to pursue her Master’s in Education through the University of Texas at Austin’s Principalship program. Most recently, she served as an ESL Instructional Coach at Harris Elementary here in AISD, where she supported teachers in the ongoing development of their instructional practice and the strengthening of classroom communities with an emphasis on inclusion of all learners. Her strengths in the areas of meeting the needs of linguistically diverse learners and culturally responsive education are a natural fit for the evolving needs of our school. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Sileo to the Lee Family.
We are in the final phases of our campus renovation projects, but it is coming down to the wire in several areas of the building. We are focusing our efforts on the completion of all classrooms before our annual Meet and Greet, which will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 17th. Doors will open promptly at 10:55 am for this opportunity for you and your student to meet their teacher. There will be a New Family Orientation held at noon in the library for anyone new to Lee Elementary. Final renovations of the auditorium and front office will continue into the first weeks of the school year in an effort to make sure all the improvements are thoroughly completed. In the meantime, our temporary office is located in the classroom immediately to your left as you enter the Library Wing. Our office team of Erica Sanchez, Stephanie Garza and Gloria Perez are available to answer any questions or help get your student registered for what is going to be an outstanding year for our Roadrunners.
I want to inform everyone of some upcoming changes for this school year. While it is a small change, our school day will now end at 3:00 pm instead of 2:57 pm. The additional time with students each day will allow us to have more professional development time as a staff. This year we will once again have two additional professional development days on October 5th and January 4th as part of district of innovation initiative. These dates are not part of the general AISD Calendar, so please mark your calendars now for these days that our Roadrunners will not have classes.
Lastly, I want to take this opportunity before the school year has started to encourage all families to help alleviate our morning traffic issues in any way possible. Make this the year you bike to school with your Roadrunner, park in our surrounding neighborhoods and walk to campus, or arrive extra early to avoid the morning rush. It is going to take a collaborative effort to help address our growing traffic issue, so please help in any way you can.
Have a wonderful week,
Principal – Russell Lee Elementary School
