Roadrunner Families, Thank you all for what has been a fabulous first week of school. Each year as our students excitedly return to school, I am reminded of what a special thing we have here at Russell Lee Elementary. It is so wonderful to hear over and over about how excited many of our students were for the first day. Thank you so much for entrusting us with your children and making this first week such a positive experience for our Roadrunners. If the first week has been difficult in any way for your child, please let us know and we will work on making their second week a better one.
This year we will be utilizing Living Tree for communicating with all of our families. In previous years we have utilized a wide variety of methods for communication and are working to streamline the ways we share important information as a school community. Living Tree is an online platform used at a number of AISD schools and we are excited to implement it this year. You might have erroneously received a message from them as they were preparing to add our campus to their system. Not to worry, information will be going out in the coming weeks about Living Tree and the ways we will be using it at our school. In the meantime, sign up for our newsletter and grade level emails to stay up to date on all of the important information for our school.
We will be holding our annual Lee Elementary Parent Forum at 6:30 p.m. on the evening of Thursday, September 5th. Also known as “Back to School Night,” Parent Forum is an opportunity for you to hear from your Roadrunner’s teachers about their grade level and what to expect this year. There are two back to back sessions for those of you with students at different grade levels; and we ask that students not attend Parent Forum so that teachers and staff can focus on sharing important information. The following week we will hold our first PTA meeting on Tuesday, September 10th, at 7:50 am in the library. Please join us to learn more about the many ways our PTA supports the extraordinary learning opportunities at our school.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who helped get our school looking so great for the first week, especially our Custodial Team – George Vasquez, Veronica Ramirez, and Idania Castillo – who worked so hard over the summer. I also want to thank the parent volunteers like Rob Clinchard, Yogesh Sharma, Leigh Ann McGehee, Claire Traganos, and everyone else who stepped up to help in the final days of summer.
Have a wonderful weekend,
John Hewlett Principal – Russell Lee Elementary School 512-414-1117 @LeeRoadrunners
