We are less than one week away from the start of school and very excited to welcome all of our Roadrunners for the first day of classes on Tuesday, August 20th. Yesterday we welcomed the teachers back to campus to reflect on our work and plan for what is going to be a fantastic school year. There are some new teachers who we will be sharing more information about in future newsletters, but I want to introduce them to you all today. In 1st grade, we are welcoming Chelsey Borris who comes to us from Dora B. Lantrip Elementary in Houston. In 5th grade, we are welcoming Greg Hull who comes to us from Nan Clayton Elementary in AISD. Our new Art Teacher is Elisabeth Wilborn who comes to us from Fanny M. Andrews Elementary in AISD and our new Reading Specialist is Kristyna Faz, who comes to us from John C. Blazier Elementary in AISD. Please help us welcome them all to the Lee family.
Speaking of the Lee family, I want to share the good news that our magnificent Music Teacher, Ms. Stephens is expecting a girl this October. We have already lined up a great long term substitute for the time that she will be out and will be restructuring the schedule of some of the grade-level programs to accommodate her absence. Ms. Stephens and the other members of our Special Areas Team have been collaborating with our Third Grade Team on our Women’s History Program which will be our first of the year.
Tonight there is a fun event to help kick off the school year. Please join us for the first annual BACK TO MAC Community Kickoff Rally! The entire McCallum school community and vertical team are invited to join us at 6:00 pm Wednesday, August 14th in the McCallum gymnasium. There will be fun for all ages as we recognize our amazing band and fall sports. Show up, wear blue, be loud and show your support for your McCallum Knights! On Friday we will be holding our annual Meet and Greet from 11:30 until 12:30 here at Russell Lee Elementary School. There will be a New Family Orientation immediately afterward in the library.
Finally, I want to remind all Roadrunner Families that the only school supplies that students will need to bring to school this year are a backpack at all grade levels and a zipper binder for grades 4th, 5th, and 6th. This year we are partnering with Austin Creative Reuse to provide gently used school supplies for our Roadrunners. Special thanks to our outstanding PTA for their support of this pilot program.
