News and Announcements
It’s time to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them! Their kindness and dedication to our children is priceless but, let’s all attempt to put a little price tag on it and send them into summer with a big bonus! You can drop off cash or checks in the envelopes in the office. The final day to donate online will be WEDNESDAY, MAY 31 at 7:45 am. Please contact your grade level coordinator regarding options for online donations.

A favorite end-of-the-year tradition at Russell Lee Elementary is spending the afternoon/evening of that last day at the Triangle (https://goo.gl/maps/frgRN8u15hx)! Plan a picnic or dine at one of the many restaurants. Come prepared for playing, splashing (when the fountain is working) and celebrating a year of hard work by our students!
See you there on June 1, 2017!
It has been another action-packed week here at Lee. On Tuesday we had our final PTA and CAC Meetings of the year. At the PTA Meeting we bid farewell to a number of our Executive Board members who have done so much to make our school a better place. I greatly appreciate Allan Cole’s leadership this year as our PTA President. Michele Starkloff has been the guiding force of our fundraising efforts that result in so many fantastic opportunities for all of our Roadrunners. Clayton Maxwell has kept us well informed and always moving forward in a positive direction and Tammy Young has done a wonderful job of thoroughly managing the finances for our PTA. I am grateful for all the assistance that they and all of our PTA Board Members have provided me in my first three years at our school.
On Thursday, I was lucky enough to have a second Principal for the Day. Naman (5th) and Anokhi Sheth (6th) split the days as principals. While they had different approaches to the position, they both did a great job advocating for extra recess on behalf of their fellow Roadrunners. Our 6th Grade Band and Orchestra did a great job performing for our students on Thursday and Friday mornings. The 6th Graders will present their Shakespeare Program on Thursday of next week at 7:00 pm
As a reminder there is no school next Friday as we will be participating in a day of professional development, including a mindfulness training from Lee parent, Hemant Bhanoo. We are very excited for all that the day has to offer! Then on Monday, the school will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. On Wednesday, May 30th all families are welcome to join us to celebrate Ms. Stuart’s career in education at her retirement party in the library at 3:00. The last day of school and 6th Grade Graduation is Thursday, June 1st. A favorite end-of-the-year tradition at Lee is spending the evening of the last day at the Triangle. Plan to picnic or dine at one of the many restaurants. Come prepared for playing, splashing (when the fountain is working) and celebrating a year of hard work by our students!
There are some changes for next year that I want to make everyone aware of before summer break. As of now, we will be returning to three classes at the Kindergarten level. We will have four classes at the 1st Grade level with Ms. Osborn moving up a grade to continue her great work with our students. In 2nd Grade we will be continuing the model that we have in place for 1st Grade, where students are with one teacher for their core subject areas and then transition to the other teachers for a small enrichment portion of their day. In 3rd Grade we will have four teachers with Ms. Hickey transitioning to that grade level. The 3rd Grade Team will work in pairs and employ a team teaching model. 4th Grade will remain with three teachers and will be piloting a Responsive Classroom program. 5th Grade will transition back to two teachers and Mr. Hubbard will rejoin our 6th Grade Leadership Institute and welcome the largest 6th grade class in recent memory!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Russell Lee Elementary School
One of our teachers has created an EdBacker campaign to raise funds that will provide training in mindfulness, character education, and other non-academic programs. This will benefit the campus as we expand our SEL skills and continue growing as a model SEL campus. Please help spread the word and contribute if this speaks to you.
