Roadrunner Families, I hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween. It was a chilly night, but it was nice to see so many of you as we went trick or treating with our family. We made it successfully through the school day today and are looking forward to the weekend. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made it such a successful Fall Carnival. It was an amazing night and our community of volunteers really stepped up. Special thanks to Ann Pelton and Matt Moore for their countless hours of work and organization to make it such a successful night. I also want to congratulate all of our costume contest winners, especially our grand prize winner, Gwyneth Lujan.
In addition to Carnival, Friday was a very special day as Ms. Stephens and her husband welcomed baby Gianna Bistolfo. Gianna weighed 6lbs 4oz, and was 19 inches at birth. We are so excited to welcome her to the Lee Family. During Ms. Stephens’s maternity leave, we are fortunate to have Mr. Rincon as our longterm sub for music class. Please help us welcome him to our school community.
On Thursday, we will hold our second Principal’s Coffee of the year. Like the first coffee, this one will be an open forum where we will discuss a wide variety of topics that are of importance at our school. We will have an update on the new addition, discuss the latest information on the AISD school changes information and update everyone on some exciting changes that are coming to our Science Fair. We hope to see you all Thursday in the library after morning announcements.
On Monday, the AISD School Board unanimously voted to adopt the new Human Sexuality and Responsibility curriculum, which will be taught in May of 2020. The approved curriculum is available through the parent portal or can be viewed here – https://www.austinisd.org/pe-health/health-education/hsr Families are able to opt out their student from one lesson to another, so I encourage you all to review the curriculum in the lead up to it’s implementation this spring semester.
Lastly, as another fantastic Fall Carnival has come and gone, it is time to set our sights on the Roadrunner Fun Run. Please read the following information about this fitness based fundraiser for our school:
Today marks the official kickoff of the annual Lee Elementary Fun Run! The Fun Run is a school-wide non-competitive run that allows our students to raise funds for our school, while having fun with their classmates. The Fun Run is scheduled for Friday, November 22nd during the school day – students will participate during their usual Special Area time.
This is an opportunity for extended family and friends to support our school. Anyone can sponsor your child by going to https://russellleeelementarypta.schoolauction.net/funrun2019/, and designating your child’s name and the entering the amount they wish to donate towards your child’s participation in the Lee Fun Run. Much more healthy and FUN than selling wrapping paper, right?
While we encourage each student to set individual fundraising goals and gain the personal satisfaction of reaching them, all Fun Run rewards will be enjoyed by the entire school to foster a sense of community. Funds from previous years have been used to install an outdoor water fountain and make much-needed overall track improvements.
Feel free to come during your students’ scheduled time and run with them or just cheer them on. You can also volunteer to help set up the event, pass out water and snacks, or pitch in in other ways, stay tuned for volunteer sign-up sheet.
Online FUNdraising starts today, 11/1, looking forward to another great event!
Have a wonderful weekend,
