Happy new year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your families. I want to start by thanking you all for your generosity and strong sense of community spirit. Thanks to your kindness, we were able to distribute over two hundred gifts to children in the Lee and Widen communities. On behalf of our teachers and staff, I would like to thank you for all of the gifts and support. Please know that it is greatly appreciated.
As we move forward in this new year, I will be sharing information about resources for our community and ways that we can support the organizations helping our families in need. As the government shutdown continues, I am putting together a list of local food banks. I will be sharing more information in upcoming newsletters, but please don’t hesitate to contact me or a member of our leadership team for more information on different opportunities for assistance.
This year we designated Christopher D’Erasmo at the Gifted and Talented (GT) Advocate for our campus. The job of the GT Advocate is to oversee our Gifted and Talented identification process and assist in developing accelerated learning opportunities for students at our school. Mr. D’Erasmo has led our teachers in professional development on differentiation and last week we held a training on ways to differentiate for accelerated learning styles. I will be hosting a school-wide Principal’s Coffee with Mr. D’Erasmo on January 24th to share the overview of the spring nominating and testing process for GT. The spring identification process begins on Monday. January 14th and ends on February 1st. A letter outlining the process was recently sent home with students and is included in the newsletter.
Tuesday at 8:00 a.m., we will be hosting our monthly PTA Meeting in the library. Please join us to hear about some of the exciting things we will be working on this semester and for the latest on our new addition.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Principal – Russell Lee Elementary School
