UPDATE ON WIDEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THANKGIVING DINNER DONATION DRIVE:
Thank you, Ms. Day for filling up your minivan with boxes and boxes of donated food, bottled water and supplies and for delivering it all to Widen Elementary! In addition to the grade-level donations, and with a contribution from our PTA, we were able to raise enough monetary donations to provide $250 worth of HEB gift cards to go towards turkey and ham as well. Thanks again for your generosity, Lee community!
Project description: We have recently begun a partner relationship with Widen Elementary in South East Austin, which we’re hoping will grow in time. They are a school in an already low socio-economic community, which was hit very hard by the recent floods. They had an immediate need for food to be able to hold their annual Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday 11/19. The dinner feeds around 60 families (around 200 people) and we wanted to be able to donate what they need in order for them to pull it off. This was a wonderful way to help these students and their families enjoy this holiday.
After assessing the school’s needs, labeled boxes were placed in each grades’ area and each grade contributed. The food was delivered on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

October month is SOCKTOBER and we have a school-wide sock drive to help homeless people nearby prepare for winter. Our goal is to collect 500 pairs of socks to donate, which we typically exceed! We will be donating socks to the Austin Homeless Task Force to be handed out with sandwiches in late November.
If you would like to help hand out the sandwiches and socks (with or without your kids), contact Community Partnership Chair. for info on where and when to meet.
