2nd Semester Happenings
We had great participation for the Winter Reading Challenge – More than 80 students participated and will receive a free ticket for admission to 6 Flags Fiesta Texas, to use this summer.
Lee Alum, Greg Foley – author, illustrator, “visionaire” – visited with 2nd and 6th grade right when we got back from Winter Break. He was fantastic. We had alot of fun. 🙂
3rd-5th grade voted for their favorite Bluebonnet Book at the end of January. Lee’s favorite book was Dead City , by James Ponti. Followed by The Neptune Project by Polly Holyoke, and a split for 3rd place between The Day the Crayons Quit and Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin by Liesl Shurtliff. Over all in Texas, The Day The Crayons Quit was voted the best Bluebonnet Book! The Lee Bluebonnet Book Challenge continues. The deadline is March 23rd. 3rd – 5th graders are challenged to read more Bluebonnet Books, with prizes awarded in 5 book increments. Keep Reading!!!
Coming Up: On Feb. 23rd Scholastic will sponsor our Book Fair Under the Sea. This time we will have a Kindergarten Family Night on Monday Feb. 23rd from 5-7pm. We will have a focus on Leveled Readers and beginning chapter books. Come by for a pre-bedtime story by one of our staff and milk and cookies. The Book Fair will run until Thursday evening. After the 4th grade program we will take down the fair to prepare for an author visit Friday morning. Book Fair is great fund raiser for Lee Library – it supplements our book and supplies budget and provides funds for Author visits and Reading Challenge Rewards.
Author Visit – Magician, JOSHUA JAY, will visit with 4th and 5th graders on Friday, February 27th. He will be promoting his new book, Big Magic for Little Hands. Orders for the book are in your child’s folder and on the round table in the main hall. Anyone may order the book – just give your order form to Mrs. Day.
