Roadrunner Rundown – SEL Night & MuSELcal!

February 20, 2020

Roadrunner Families,
Please join us this evening at 6:00 in the gym for SEL Night. There will be a variety of fun activities for all ages, and the opportunity to take home one of our signature SEL tote bags and a picture book for your Roadrunner to keep. Feel free to join us afterwards at 7:00 for the evening performance of our 1st grade program, MuSELcal! It is a wonderful reminder of all the ways social and emotional learning help our students and staff navigate their days.

As we continue to go through outdoor temperature shifts from warm to cold and back again, our lost and found has grown to epic proportions. We will be putting some new systems in place to reunite your Roadrunners with their lost items, but are requesting that last names be written on all items that could be taken off or left behind. We were able to return dozens of items today because they were labeled. Unlabeled items have been folded for display by our amazing Lost and Found Committee, but will not be here past next Friday, so please stop by to take a look.

Next week is Childcare Team Appreciation Week, an opportunity to show our outstanding team members how much we appreciate all they do to make our school a safe and engaging learning environment. Even if your Roadrunner is not in our aftercare program, they interact with our team members during lunch, lunch recess, and during other times throughout the day. Please help us show our Childcare Team how much we appreciate them!

Looking into next month, we will hold our annual fundraiser, Lee Live on Saturday, March 7th. Tickets are available here:
Then we have spring break from March 16th through March 20th, with students returning to school until Monday, March 23rd. That week we have scheduled a Principal’s Coffee for the morning of Thursday, March 26th to review information about the new AISD Human Sexuality and Responsibility curriculum. More information will be going home about all of these events as we progress rapidly through this spring semester.

Lastly, we would like to encourage you to take this year’s AISD Family Survey. We want your feedback on the quality of your Roadrunner’s education with Austin ISD as well as your relationship with the staff here at Russell Lee Elementary School. You can take the survey at or log in to the Parent Cloud and select the family survey tile. We work very hard to provide your student with exceptional educational opportunities and we would appreciate your feedback.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend,

John Hewlett
