This week is Counselor Appreciation Week and we will be celebrating Leah Gilbert and all that she does for our students and staff. This is Leah’s fourth year at Russell Lee Elementary and the positive impact she has on our community cannot be overstated. Whether it is directly assisting our students in navigating life’s challenges, leading informative book studies for our families or her strong leadership in social-emotional learning, we are incredibly fortunate to have Ms. Gilbert at our school. Please join us in showing her how much we appreciate all that she brings to our students, school, and community.
Last week was an enlightening one with our outstanding Celebration of Science projects and experiments. I am continually amazed by the different topics that our Roadrunners pursue and I think our new flexible format served to open this event to more students and their interests. I want to thank Adrienne Dula and all of our teachers, volunteers and judges for their time and expertise in making this inaugural year so successful. Congratulations to all participants and the Russell Lee Elementary School Science Fair Winners!

The winners of our Science Fair, who will be going on to represent our school in the Regional Science Fair were recognized at our monthly assembly on Friday. We celebrated our fantastic music substitute, Mr. Rincon who will be leaving us this week as Ms. Stephens returns from her maternity leave. We also had a great time learning about Chinese New Year from the two visiting teachers from China who will be spending the next few weeks with our 6th Grade leadership Institute. We are excited to celebrate Black History Month starting Monday with morning announcements, grade level lessons and our school-wide February assembly later in the month.
Lastly, I want to remind everyone of some of the important information we shared last week about our new telemedicine program that will be available to all Roadrunners who register. Please see the flyer and register today. Additional information and an FAQ can be found on the Comprehensive Health & Mental Health Telemedicine webpage: https://www.austinisd.org/student-health/telehealth
Have a wonderful week,
Principal – Russell Lee Elementary School
