This week was a busy one and next week is looking even busier! Thank you to everyone who made our Veteran’s Day Ceremony so memorable. Special thanks to the members of our Scout troops and our 6th Grade Leaders for once again leading the way. This week we celebrated Teaching Assistant Appreciation Week. We have a very dedicated team of teaching assistants here at Lee who do so much to make learning come to life. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jessica De La Cruz, Sylvia DeShaw, Stephanie Ledesma, and the latest addition to our great team, Beverly Johnson. Thanks to each of them and all of you who helped us in celebrating them this week.
We will be holding our Roadie Work Day this Saturday, November 16th at 9:00 am. Roadie Work Days are an opportunity for students and families to work on a wide variety of campus improvement projects and prepare for our upcoming Fun Run. Our annual Flu Clinic will be next Tuesday afternoon and then after school we will hold our monthly CAC meeting. On Thursday we will have our 2nd Grade Mexico Program. Our student day performance will be taking place at 9:30 instead of 9:00. Then on Friday it is time for the big event!
Excitement is building for this years Roadrunner Fun Run! The Fun Run is an opportunity for extended family and friends to support our school through sponsoring a student. Every Roadrunner will participate and everyone is encouraged to sign up here – ROADRUNNER FUN RUN The latest fun incentive to be added is that Coach Reyes and I will be switching roles. I will be the PE Teacher for the day and Coach Reyes will serve as our principal. This is the first Fun Run for Coach Reyes, so we want to make it the best one yet. Please also mark your calendars for our annual Campus Camp Out – coming up on Friday, December 6th. More details will be forthcoming soon as we figure out whether I will be sleeping with the chickens!
Lastly, we will be starting a new Safety Patrol drop off area on Harris Avenue by the library parking lot (indicated by the blue X). This will allow us to have cars who have dropped off their student exit the area by turning left at the intersection of Harris and Hampton and proceeding northbound up Hampton Road. We are asking that no cars come down the hill on Hampton so the path is clear for departing vehicles. We have created this map for reference purposes and appreciate your cooperation with the new traffic pattern as we work to address the morning traffic issues at our school.
We are fortunate enough to now have two crossing guards, but there have been too many near misses with students getting dropped off in the middle of the street. Please remember to always use your blinker and don’t let your student out anywhere other than the front of the school or the new drop-off spot. Additionally, we are still in need of Neighborhood Visitor Parking Permits for Areas 2 and 4. If there are any of you who have Visitor Permits you could share with us, please let us know as soon as possible.
Have a wonderful weekend,
John Hewlett Principal – Russell Lee Elementary School 512-414-1117 @LeeRoadrunners
