Roadrunner Rundown – Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month

October 5, 2019

Roadrunner Families,
As a reminder, there will be no school this Friday or the following Monday as we are working on professional development and holding parent teacher conferences. This week we will be celebrating Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month with a number of fun events. On Thursday we will be having an assembly featuring Rancho Allegre Conjunto. Later that evening, Amigos de Russell Lee and the PTA will be co-hosting a community Loteria night for students and families from 6:00 until 8:00. Come relax with friends before the long weekend begins for a fun evening of paletas, popcorn, loteria, and board games! The event is free of charge. Please feel free to bring a favorite board game to share in the fun. We hope to see you there!

Monday is the first day of Pride Week. Each October Austin ISD hosts its own Pride Week, a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ students, staff and families and showcase the district’s commitment to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. It is also Cafeteria Team Appreciation Week, so please join us in showing Loren Wyatt, Claudia Valencia and Lateasha Washington how much we appreciate all they do for our Roadrunners.

Living Tree is now being used by all grade levels and will be utilized as our primary form of communication. There have been some issues related to receiving notifications when a new message has been sent. Updating the app, or reinstalling it should take care of this issue. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or issues with this new communication platform. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Tara and Greg Baker who have made such significant updates to our school website – https://www.lee-elementary.org/.

Lastly, we underwent an attendance audit on Friday, which focused on tardies. We will be implementing some new systems to cut down on late arrivals. Please remember that students need to be in class before the sound of the bell at 7:45 am.

Have a wonderful weekend,

John Hewlett
