Roadrunner Families, We are settling into our routines and reviewing the common language we will be using with all of our student’s this year. We have worked on revising a number of our school-wide systems to make guidelines clear for our students and families. We will be sharing an updated Student and Family Handbook next week as we get Living Tree implemented. In the meantime, here is some of the common language you will hear within our school this year so you can reinforce these concepts with your Roadrunner.
Next week is a busy one, with a number of events for our families. There will be no school on Monday for Labor Day. On Wednesday, we will have our first meeting of Amigos de Russell Lee, the group that makes Spanish instruction possible on our campus. We are currently scheduled for kindergarten and 1st grade, but will be getting our 30 minute Spanish instruction scheduled for grades 2nd through 5th soon. The Amigos de Russell Lee meeting will take place in the cafeteria at 8:00 am and all are welcome to join.
On Thursday morning, I will host our first Principal’s Coffee of the year. The Principal’s Coffee series offers an opportunity to discuss different programs that are taking place at our school and have your questions answered in a small group environment. The coffee begins after announcements and will be in the library. Then that evening we will be holding our Parent Forum. Also known as “Back to School Night,” Parent Forum is an opportunity for you to hear from your Roadrunner’s teachers about their grade level and what to expect this year. There are two back to back sessions starting at 6:30 for those of you with students at different grade levels; and we ask that students not attend Parent Forum so that teachers and staff can focus on sharing important information.
Lastly, I want to share that our overall numbers of kindergarteners have proven to be lower than projections and we will be transitioning back to three classes for this school year. Rather than waiting for the leveling process that takes place each year in September, it was important to us that all of our students be in their classes for this year prior to Parent Forum. Ms. Manning, Ms. Stanfield, and Ms. Gonzales are excited to welcome the Roadrunners next Tuesday who have been under the care of our amazing substitute, Ms. Gurgiolo. I want to take this opportunity thank her for all of her efforts to welcome our students and families to Russell Lee Elementary School.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Principal – Russell Lee Elementary School
