Roadrunner Rundown – Librarian Appreciation Week

April 7, 2019

Roadrunner Families,
This coming week is a busy one as we will be celebrating our amazing Jenny Day during Librarian Appreciation Week. Whether it is the Book Fair, the Maker’s Fair or all of the other things that Ms. Day does to bring learning to life for our Roadrunners, we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated educator as our librarian. Please help us celebrate Ms. Day and all she does for our school.

This week also marks the beginning of our STAAR testing, which means we will not have any visitors on campus Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday as students in 4th and 5th grades are testing. Tuesday is our 5th Grade Math STAAR and 4th Grade Writing STAAR, Wednesday is our 5th Grade Reading STAAR Test and Thursday is our make up day for all testing. Thank you for your patience and understanding as work to create the best possible environment for our students during this state required testing.

I want to make you aware of some important events coming up in the remaining weeks of this school year. This Tuesday night, Amigos de Russell Lee will host their second JuLEEo’s Night at Julios restaurant at 4230 Duval Street. Portions of the proceeds from sales that night will go to provide Spanish instruction at our school. Amigos will also be hosting their biggest event of the year, Noche Latina – spring festival on the evening of May 3rd. On Saturday May 4th, we will have our annual Bike Rodeo fro 9:30 until 11:30am in preparation for Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 8th. Both of these events are being organized by Tina Bui, the head of our Bike and Pedestrian Safety Committee. Tina has also been instrumental in the new crosswalk that is currently being constructed on Red River to provide safe passage for some of our Roadrunners on their way to school each day.

Lastly, I want to remind everyone that there will be no school on Friday, April 19th as our teachers take part in important professional development. We will hold our spring Roadie Work Day the next day on Saturday, April 20th to prepare for Lee Olympics, which will take place the following Friday, April 26th. This will be the inaugural Lee Olympics for our outstanding new PE Teacher, Alyssa Reyes and we want to make it a great one. We hope to see you all at these important Russell Lee Elementary events.

Go Hoos!!
