Roadrunner Rundown – Bettie Mann Day

December 2, 2018

Roadrunner Families,
It was an action packed week at Russell Lee Elementary School and I want to take a moment to thank some of the key players. Thanks to Clayton Maxwell who organized another informative and thought provoking “How to Talk to Your Kids about Race” panel discussion. Thank you to Susan and Ian Fraser and Adrienne Dula who have worked so hard to make third annual Roadrunner Fun Run such a blast. It was a fantastic day for our students and we appreciate all of the support for this fundraiser that continues to run through this Saturday, December 8th. Our 6th Graders did a great job leading the way and the one and only Coach Huff left our Roadrunners with words to remember in his final Fun Run. Thank you to Wren Nokes and Julie Stephens for putting together a great retirement party in his honor. The day ended around the campfire as we hosted our second annual Campus Camp Out. Thank you to Tina Bui and Wolfgang Frey for facilitating the fun and thank you to Harlon Hewlett for braving the chicken enclosure with me for the third year in a row.

On Tuesday at 8:00 am we will be hosting a Counselor’s Coffee about middle school options. There will be a synopsis of the options and procedures for applying to AISD magnet middle schools as well as information about the great things happening at Kealing. There will also be a question and answer session which will include parents that have been through the process.

Saturday, December 8th is Bettie Mann Day and we will be hosting Ms. Mann on Friday to read to the kindergarteners who attend class each day in the kindergarten wing that bears her name. She will also be imparting wisdom on education and leadership to our 6th Graders. We will be celebrating her birthday in February with a school-wide assembly.

Have a wonderful week,

John Hewlett
Principal – Russell Lee Elementary School
