November 2, 2018
We are just a week away from one of our favorite days of the year here at Russell Lee Elementary, the world famous Geography Day! Efforts are already underway to transform our different grade levels into Tibet, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Tunisia, Ireland, and Japan, respectively. Next Friday our Roadrunners will grab their “passports” and head off to a country of their choosing for a fun filled day of cultural immersion. It is an incredibly exciting day and a lot of effort goes into making it happen, so if you are available to help with set up, clean up or anything in between, please contact your grade-level coordinator.
Next Wednesday, November 7th is Picture Day for all students. Students will have individual photographs taken and then our class photos will take place in spring. If your family is in need of assistance to get a photo packet for your student or they are going to miss picture day, please contact the front office for help.
Speaking of photography, you may have noticed a number of new framed photographs from our school’s namesake adorning our walls. This is part of the second phase of Russell Lee images that have been sponsored by school families and supporters of Russell Lee, to be printed and framed for our school. Later this year we will be introducing the third phase of this program. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored these amazing images.
Later this month, our Campus Advisory Council will be working together to complete a survey on the proposed revisions to the Human Sexuality and Responsibility curriculum for the 2019/2020 school year. There are a number of upcoming opportunities to learn more about this curriculum, which are being presented by the Austin ISD Office of Academics and Social and Emotional Learning. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available and the dates, times and locations of the currently scheduled meetings can be found by clicking these links – HSR flier ENGLISH – HSR flier SPANISH
Have a wonderful weekend,
