Roadrunner Rundown – Fall Carnival!

October 19, 2018

Roadrunner Families,
We are one week away from the Fall Carnival and with the recent cold front, it officially feels like autumn. This year’s Carnival will feature all the familiar favorites like the bouncy houses, the cake walk, scary karaoke or Skaraoke, the maze and the culminating event of the night, our annual costume contest. Work is already underway to transform the White House into the scariest haunted house we have ever had and I have been hearing about some amazing costumes we will be seeing that night. We are still in need of volunteers and sponsors, so please click here for more information:

Thank you all very much for the Principal’s Day kindness. As an educator and a parent, I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this school community. I genuinely appreciate the generosity and am thankful for the opportunity to work with all of your children.

Congratulations to LEAP on a very successful screening of Coco last Friday to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. It was a fun event and a great way to end a day that started with a school assembly featuring Conjunto music courtesy of Grammy award winning accordion player, JR Gomez. We plan on doing more screenings through the course of the year and will be installing a theater style screen with rear projection in our auditorium to make even better use of that amazing space. Thanks to everyone who made it such a special culmination to Hispanic Heritage Month.

Lastly, there will be a special PTA membership meeting on Monday, October 22nd at 7:50 am in the cafeteria. As explained at the last meeting, The PTA Board received a response from the IRS from the audit of the 2015-16 year indicating that the Russell Lee PTA owed nearly $10k in taxes, fees and penalties. Matt Stewart, our current treasurer with help from Lisa Hoyt, has negotiated that bill down to less than $5k. We require a budget amendment which needs to be approved by the membership before we can proceed. This will be a short (15-20 min) meeting where we will discuss and vote on a budget amendment. Please attend if you can. Then on Tuesday, we will have our flu clinic for students who have signed up to get the influenza vaccine here at school.

Have a wonderful weekend,

John Hewlett
