Roadrunner Rundown – Noche Latina!

May 11, 2018

Roadrunner Families,
I want to start by sharing the news of the joyous arrival of Marcos Javier Abrego. Baby Abrego was born on Thursday at 8:48 am and weighed in at 7 pounds, 9 ounces. Ms. Abrego and her son are doing well and appreciate all the well wishes and support. Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the Lee Family!

Next week is our annual spring carnival benefiting our Spanish language program, Noche Latina! Things will kick off next Friday, May 18th at 5:30 and go until 8:30 with fun activities for all ages. There will be our annual “Spirit Stick” competition for best grade-level booth and we will have a performance by Atash, who has been voted best world music band six years running. It will be a festive evening, we hope to see all of you there!

In conjunction with Noche Latina, we will will be holding our yearly Family Fitness Night. Coach Huff and members of our 6th Grade Wellness Team will be hosting students and their families in the gym next Friday night. There will be a wide variety of fun physical activities for everyone and prizes for participating Roadrunners.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our parent education series this past week. It was very informative and we are planning to continue the series in the future. I want to thank Clayton Maxwell for all her hard work organizing our “How to Talk to Your Kids About Race” panel discussion and Beth Reyburn for organizing the presentation on how to “Be a S.M.A.R.T. Parent”. It was a great week of learning.

Next week we have the STAAR test for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Testing will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, so there will be no campus visitors on those days, including during lunch. Please make sure your Roadrunners get plenty of sleep and have a good breakfast each morning. Thank you for your support.

Lastly, I want to share the sad news of the passing of Archie Clayton. Archie was the loving husband of Dr. Mary Lou Clayton, longtime principal of Lee Elementary School. There will be a visitation on Sunday, May 20th and a memorial service on Monday, May 21st at Covenant Presbyterian Church beginning at 11:00 am.

Have a wonderful weekend,

John Hewlett
Proud Principal
