Roadrunner Rundown – Valentine’s Week

February 9, 2018

Roadrunner Families,
Thanks to everyone who came out for our Whole Child Family Night (WCFN) on Tuesday. As a principal and parent, it was great to see so many of the social emotional learning activities that take place in our students’ classrooms each day. A heartfelt thank you to Leah Gilbert and all of our teachers who shared their talents with our families.

We had a fantastic turnout at the PTA meeting that followed WCFN. We elected this year’s Nominating Committee who will help select the slate for next year’s PTA Executive Board. Congratulations to Wren Nokes, Chris D’Erasmo, and Christopher Doran. If you are interested in being considered for leadership positions within our PTA, please let us know and we will connect you with the committee.

We are excited to announce that we will have an 80’s cover band kicking off the show at Lee Live! Comprised of Lee parents, they will get the party started before our DJ takes over with more of everyone’s favorite tunage. This year Lee Live is taking place Saturday, March 3rd at Saengerrunde Hall @ 1607 San Jacinto Blvd. Get your tix now through our website for a fun-filled evening of 80’s music, dancing, Tex-mex, and bidding you won’t want to miss!

I want to make you all aware of some recent staffing changes here at Lee. Please welcome, Jena Alexander who has joined our Childcare Team to replace Sierra Peavey, who left to pursue her education. Jena is a Lee parent and a familiar face who subbed in our childcare program this fall. Trisha Hailey, our bookkeeper is moving to Ridgetop where her two children attend school. Erica Sanchez will become our new bookkeeper. Ana Bedoy will take over as the instructor our Spanish program in 5th grade. Congratulations to Erica and Jena and we wish Trisha and Sierra the very best!

Next Thursday our 5th graders will present their African American Heritage Program. The student performance will take place at 9:00 am and the family performance will be at 7:00 pm. We hope everyone will join us for this celebratory program. As a reminder, there is no school for students next Friday, February 16th and Monday, February 19th as our teachers participate in important professional development and spring conferences. I have also been asked to remind all families that students must report to the cafeteria if they arrive to school before 7:40 in the morning. They will be dismissed from there, but need to be properly supervised while our teachers prepare for the day. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We have scheduled our next Principal’s Coffee for 8:00 am March 1st. We will be discussing the upcoming summer construction projects and plans for next year. We have also established two new joint subcommittees to address campus and safety issues. The first will be working on improving safe routes to school for our students and families. The second will address necessary improvements to our outdoor space, which will be even more important during the upcoming renovations. If you are interested in serving on either of these important committees, please let me know.

Lastly, please join us at the Mueller area Chipotle – 1201 Barbara Jordan Blvd, this Sunday night for our latest fundraiser. 50% of proceeds from 4:00-8:00 pm will come to Lee Elementary if you mention our school at check out. We hope to see you all there!

Have a wonderful weekend,
