Roadrunner Rundown – Celebrations!

December 8, 2017

Roadrunner Families,
I hope all of our Roadrunners enjoyed the unexpected snow day. We anticipated the possibility of a two hour delay once it started snowing, but the full day cancellation was a surprise to all of us! We will be rescheduling the Principal’s Coffee with Kenisha Coburn and we were sorry to not get to spend Bettie Meshack Mann day in the presence of Bettie herself. Please remember this Sunday, December 10th will be our Science Fair Sunday. A group of Lee Parents/Scientists will be available to help students define their projects, formulate a good hypothesis, and make an experiment plan. Science Fair Sunday is from 2:00-4:00.

Last Friday night we had our first ever Family Camp Out on the school campus. We had over forty five tents and even more families who came by to visit, but didn’t stay the night. There was a Bug Hunt led by Austin Families in Nature and I read a bedtime story to the chickens. Thanks to Beth Reyburn for organizing such a fun night!

We are less than a week away from our annual Celebrations program and we will again be offering three ways for families to see the show. On Wednesday, December 13th at 1:30 pm we will present our Grandparents Show, which is open to extended family and will be followed by a reception in the library. Then on Thursday evening we will have two performances, one at 6:00 and the other at 7:15. Please choose one of the performances and limit your free tickets to two so that all parents are able to see our Celebrations program.

Because we are limiting tickets to the night performances of Celebrations, we are encouraging any additional family members to attend the Grandparents Show on Wednesday. Please remember, in order for Celebrations to be successful, we need all students to attend both night performances. Students will have dinner between programs, but the night will again feature our amazing Amigos de Russell Lee – International Dinner in the cafeteria. No advance tickets are necessary for the International Dinner and it is shaping up to be another festive event that strongly supports Spanish instruction at our school. Doors to the performances will open ten minutes before showtime, but the campus will be open starting at 5:00 for those attending the International Dinner. Please follow the link above to secure your free tickets and we look forward to celebrating with you next week!

Lastly, I want to remind you about the two new professional development days for our teachers that are not part of the AISD Calendar. January 3rd and February 16th will be student holidays. This means that students will return to school from Winter Break on January 4th. President’s Day Weekend will now be a four day weekend for our students with a professional development day for our teachers on Friday, February 16th and then our spring conference day on Monday, February 19th.

Have a wonderful weekend,

John Hewlett
