Roadrunner Rundown – Back to School!

August 14, 2017

Roadrunner Families,
We are so excited to welcome all of you back for what is going to be a fantastic year at Russell Lee Elementary School. For those of you who are new to our school, welcome! We are so glad that you all have chosen us for the academic and social-emotional education of you children. I hope that all of you have had a wonderful summer.

This week we will be collaborating as a staff on professional development in the areas of advanced academic offerings, Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), classroom community building and mindfulness with a new mindfulness curriculum being offered through Mind Up. The week will conclude with our annual Meet and Greet, where families will have the opportunity to meet their Roadrunner’s new teacher. The Meet and Greet will take place the Friday from 11:30-12:30. We hope to see you all on Friday.

The first day of school this year is especially momentous as it coincides with the solar eclipse that will serve as a fun learning opportunity for our students. We will have a variety of ways for the eclipse to be experienced at different grade levels. Additional information will be going out through the grade level coordinators.

Lastly, I would like to introduce our new music teacher, Julie Stephens. Julie recently received her masters from The University of Texas at Austin in the department of Music and Human Learning. She is a researcher in the field of music practice cognition and has presented work throughout the United States. Prior to arrival in Texas, Ms. Stephens performed as a Hornist and worked as a Music Director in Southern California. She completed undergraduate studies at the University of the Pacific in 2010, where she was a concerto competition winner. During her time at Pacific she studied Horn locally, and then abroad under members of the Vienna Philharmonic via the Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) Vienna chamber music program. Julie has been enthusiastically involved with Cazadero Music Camp since 2004. She is an affiliate of The American Orff Schulwerk Association, International Conference for Music Perception and Cognition, Texas Music Educators Association and Sigma Alpha Iota. In her spare time Julie enjoys practicing instruments, yoga, healthy cooking, painting, camping and reading. Please help us welcome Ms. Stephens to the Lee Family.

Have a wonderful week, we look forward to seeing you all soon,

John Hewlett
