Roadrunner Rundown – Bettie Meshack Mann Kindergarten Wing

December 9, 2016

Roadrunner Families,
What a wonderful evening we had last night celebrating the legacy of Bettie Mann and officially dedicating or Kindergarten Wing in her honor. There were a number of AISD Board Members in attendance to help us pay tribute, including Vice President Paul Saldana and our ever-supportive Amber Elenz, who both addressed the excited audience. Ms. Abrego and Ms. Nokes did a fantastic job of sharing the impact that Ms. Mann had on them from a student’s perspective. Ms. Manning, Ms. Stanfield and Ms. Gonzales spoke about the important lessons that they learned from Ms. Mann as new teachers at Lee Elementary. A profound thanks goes out to Shannon Cavanagh and Nancy Mims for making the evening such a special one. Thanks to former childcare team member Cindy Elizabeth for her amazing photography and Eileen Davern for keeping everyone well fed. It was a beautiful celebration of a wonderful educator.

Next week is our annual Celebrations Program. There is a performance on Monday at 1:30 for grandparents and extended family. There will be reception afterwards and tickets are not required. On Tuesday night, there are two performances, one at 6:00 PM and one 7:15 PM. We are also excited to offer an International Dinner hosted by The Amigos de Russell Lee. I just got a preview of some of the menu items and it sounds spectacular. Tickets for Celebrations and the International Dinner are available here:

We will hold our monthly CAC Meeting on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the recent proposals related to the AISD Facilities Master Plan. More information about the ongoing discussion can be found here:

On Thursday evening, we will have our Lee Creates release party in the library beginning at 6:00. We are excited to hear more from the creative Roadrunners included in this latest edition of Lee Creates! On Friday we will have our monthly assembly where we will recap the Roadrunner Fun Run and present our check for over $2500 to Mobile Loaves and Fishes, a local charity that works to end homelessness. Mobile Loaves and Fishes was selected by our Student Council and we are hoping begin a collaborative relationship with this outstanding organization.

Lastly, a big shout-out to all the parents who participated in our Career Fair this week!

Have a wonderful weekend,
